Smoke-Free Family

Always be on the lookout for situations that could threaten the respect of the ban on smoking in your home and car.

  • A period of stress could cause smokers to light up more often. You could suggest that they take a walk. That way everyone wins: you don’t have to have smoke inside and they can relieve their anxiety by getting some air.
  • A chilly day can make people want to smoke right next to the door, or even to opt for the garage. But all they need to do is dress warmly. Once outside, they can take the opportunity to move around a bit by walking several blocks: that will warm them up.
  • When it’s nice outside, the patio, which often becomes an extension of the house for meals with family and friends, can also pose problems. In this case, the area should be declared a “smoke-free zone,” even though it is outside.
  • In the car, when it’s hot, the windows are rolled down. This does not make it okay to light up! Plan stops in safe areas to accommodate people who smoke.
